When is Ovulation Induction recommended?
Ovulation Induction is usually the recommended treatment when there is a failure to release an egg each month ( anovulation).
Usually there is a history of irregular or absent periods. Sometimes women may not get ovulation surges when they test or progesterone levels are too low.
There can be a number of reasons for this to occur which can be investigated and treated appropriately.
Sometimes simple lifestyle changes or treatment is all that is required that will allow ovulation to occur spontaneously, and not require any further treatment or monitoring, however for many couples, Ovulation Induction is required to make the ovaries release an egg.
How is Ovulation Induction achieved?
The first step of the Ovulation Induction process is by taking a simple oral medication for 5 days at the start of a menstrual cycle, very occasionally further treatment may then be required.
In accordance with best practice at NWF we will always monitor patients response with ultrasound scans to ensure effective treatment and avoid any risks of multiple pregnancy with this treatment.
